Dance of the Sugar Plum.

With the success of my Nutcracker design, which will be launching this Christmas, I decided to create another design to compliment the theme, and in turn, trigger more nostalgia.

My Nutcracker design was inspired by a toy that was kept in The Nutcracker Story Box. This toy was the Nutcracker and Clara sitting on the flying swan, and the magical part? A star lit up and played The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, after placing a finger underneath the swans beak, and releasing it.
This iconic piece of music inspired my next design, Dance of the Sugar Plum.

I started with placing the gift box in front of me, along with one the play cards of the Sugar Plum Fairy (also in the gift box), to gain inspiration for the pattern and colour-way. For the dancing Sugar Plum Fairy, I played a video of The Nutcracker Ballet, and paused at a frame where the ballerina was positioned just so.

Using nib and ink for the drawing, like the Nutcracker design, I was able to achieve the more natural, sketchy aesthetic. I also used winter florals to compliment the ballerina, and sweet/candy motifs.

With my Sugar Plum motif now compete, it was 'play time'. Cutting and reassembling my drawings is where the magic happens.

And here is one of my final designs, the Sugar Plum Pocket Square.

This design will be made into five different sizes, catering to all your silk accessory needs :).
I hope it becomes a part of your sentimental story, and the loved ones you buy for.
